Good News!

We are pleased to announce that the Revd Canon Lee Francis-Dehquani has been appointed Priest in Charge of the two Benefices consisting of Ingatestone, Fryerning, Margaretting, Mountnessing and Buttsbury churches. He is due to be inducted on the evening of Thursday 5th May at 7.30 pm in St Edmunds and St Mary's Church Ingatestone. We look forward to welcoming him to our church.

Welcome to St Mary's Buttsbury

St Mary's church was built in the 14th century. It is without lighting or heating other than that provided by candles and is set amongst arable fields between the villages of Ingatestone and Stock. It is what one might call an agricultural church, not only because of its setting but also because of its services. In addition to the two services held every month, services are held each year to celebrate Plough Sunday, Rogation, Lammas and Harvest. The church is opened daily attracting visitors which, due to an adjacent footpath, over a year are numbered in hundreds.

Our Church Services

We have regular BCP Services every month, Holy Communion at 8.45 am on the first Sunday of the month and Evensong on the third Sunday at 3.30 pm. All are welcome to join us but wrap up well in the winter!

Maintaining our Church

Our beautiful and historic Church of course needs regular care and we have a band of volunteers (not all of whom attend the Church but wish to maintain a church in this lovely setting) who support us with cleaning, flower arranging and churchyard maintenance. If you would like to be involved, telephone Alison or Chris Hayward on 01277 356836 for more information.
